This was a year of "Accentuating the Positive"!!

This year the YCS Ft. Lee Education Center continued with the implementation of our Student of the Month Ceremonies.  Each month students are praised for their accomplishments and progress made. Awards were given for positive progress in behavior, academics and speech.  Honor Roll awards were given for high academic achievement. We ended the year of acknowledgments with the Principal's Awards for Perseverance, Performance and Scholastics at graduation.  In addition to the awards ceremonies, students were given the opportunity to present their individual and group work in front of the student body.  The lessons consisted of the history of fashion, art demonstrations, musical performances, poetic expressions and our first ever Spelling Bee!

Our Assistant Principal, Ms. Lawhorn, created and implemented the school's "Sheer Good News Report". These reports are generated by any staff member who sees a student displaying greatness. These "Purple Sheets" are posted in the lobby for all to see and copied for students and their residences.

Special activities were conducted twice a month for students whose behaviors improved.  All activities were based on the interests of the individual student.

"Life Choices" was a grant program initiated at the school from September through January.  A certified school nurse presented a curriculum once a month with various approaches to teach about the negative fetal effects of drinking alcohol while pregnant. Students were engaged and excited to learn about this important topic through video, a Jeopardy-type game and hands-on Science experiments.  All students were evaluated an their pre and post knowledge with data collected and analyzed by the YCS Research Department.

New clubs were initiated this year....the Yearbook Club took many photographs of school activities; the Interact Club made bagged peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and served them to the homeless population at Newark Penn Station; and the Crochet Club learned basic stitches with the goal of some beautiful creations next year!!

Finally, we kicked off our school's 20th anniversary celebration at our 2016 Prom that was held at the Graycliff Manor in Moonachie on June 8th.  We will continue with a variety of celebration activities during the 2016-2017 school year!
